Photographs of Trier (Trèves), Germany's oldest city (2,000+ years).

This sundial/fountain (it's a fountain designed as a sundial) on the Willy-Brand-Platz behind the basilica (seen on the right) was given to the city of Trier for its 2,000th anniversary in 1985 by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. There's more information at (in German).

It's not necessarily a beautiful thing (or photo, for that matter), but I think it has an odd, quirky look to it. The gnomon (which is, like, totally my favorite word ever) kinda looks like a giant cigarette, don't you think?

(btw, Happy Groundhog Day, everybody!)
