At the train station

... where this man was waiting for his train to arrive. But since he didn't have any luggage with him, I'm guessing he was just there to pick someone up?

Yes, it's a cliché photo, but still, how could I not take it?

The abstract/artsy mood continues with this impression of tourists stepping off of a ferry. Tomorrow another long photo.

Strange colors

street lights, signs and trees

... and strange shapes. I guess I was in an experimental mood today?

Fire Engine

That's equipment on the side of a fire truck. I had the opportunity to see one up close recently when the apartment two floors below me caught fire!

Long Photo: Domfreihof

Today I'm starting a series of posts - I'll try to do one each Friday - that gives you an impression of the city of Trier through a short video.

I recorded this yesterday, around noon, at the Domfreihof, the place in front of the Dom (cathedral) and the Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady). You see a lot of tourists (even a guided group) and many more people that came out to go shopping or just enjoy the beautiful weather.

Another view of the mask I first spotted behind the Theater two years ago.

Another Crucifix

Like I said a few weeks ago, in Catholic Trier it's not a rare sight. This one stands right above the road to the Cathedral and the Church of Our Lady, of which you can see a small part in the background.

Another animal, although this time one made of stone, sitting on top of a fountain and wearing a traffic cone on its head for no apparant reason.

C'est la vie, non?

Not the most beautiful subject for a photo, but nontheless a 'part' of the city (of any city, I'd say). Sadly, the only reason that I was able to take this picture, and get as close as I did, was that the mouse was obviously not well. It didn't seem to notice anything around him, not even a bus driving by just a few meters next to him.

Street Art Sunday: Mo²!

Another beautiful Momo graffito, in one of the small streets behind the cathedral.

Citroën 2CV

Citroën 2CV

Actually I just wanted to photograph the Trier train station, with its big analog clock, but then this old, red Ente totally stole the show!

When I was a child, one of my neighbours had one of those (in bright yellow!) and I remember that I always found it to be a very strange car that I did not want to ride in! It just seemed unsafe to me, I guess?

Another animal photo, this time of a bird we found lying/sitting in the grass in front of a friend's house. At first we thought it was seriously injured, but after a few minutes it regained its strength and flew away, so the story had a happy ending!

Men of the Clergy

men of the clergy

A follow-up to yesterday's photo, here is a small group of Catholics that I caught, it seems, amused by something on the ground in front of the Trierer Dom (cathedral). What could they be looking at? Somebody's shoes? Maybe a small animal?

And don't you just have to love the guy in the background, drinking a glass of white wine? Doesn't he look a bit like God in Da Vinci's The Creation of Adam?

Empty chairs

empty chairs

Yesterday morning, German nun Rosa Flesch was beatified in Trier, and all these seats that were set up in front of the cathedral were filled. But when I came across them in the evening, they were just a sea of empty chairs, a sight that I found very intriguing.

Panning up from yesterday's photo, we have this tower in Ruwer, a suburb of Trier. I couldn't find any information on the purpose of this building online, so if any Ruwerer are reading this and know more, please let me know in the comments!

This part of Germany is a Catholic strong-hold, so the sight of Jesus on the cross is not that unusual. This one stands on the railing of the Römerbrücke, a bridge that was first built before Jesus was even born!
