Cat vs. Rabbit

cat and rabbit

I am going to start posting a daily Trier photo again soon, but until I do, I wanted to share some of the shots I did since I last posted here. Most of them will be nature photographs, with animals featured in almost all of them, and none of them will have been made in Trier.

And I begin with this short series of photographs showing a cat proudly presenting its prey. Yes, these are not the kind of cat and bunny-pictueres you might find on Cute Overload, but they're fascinating nonetheless.

You are going to see more of this particulary cat and her young over the next weeks, too. But no more hunted down bunnies, promised! ;)

  1. Wow, did she kill it in the end or did the rabbit escaped?

  2. I guess this is the reason I shoot feral cats. They kill millions of song birds and as you can see, young rabbits. It is a shame that people do not take care of their cats but let them breed like rabbits and the problem continues.

Ineke, I'm not sure. They disappeared into the bushes soon after I took the photos.

No, she thought the bunny is her baby, that's how a mother cat carry her baby around

    Awesome. :)

@Abraham Lincoln: And why would killing cats be better than killing rabbits? Personally I think this is one sweet kitty.

A cat's gotta eat. Wild rabbits are vermin and a pest to many land owners and should be shot. Good on the cat for killing it

Nature. Deal with it. Rabbits breed like rats. Cats keep rat and other rodents (like bunny here) in check. Claws FTW.

People literally want a cat to die because it's trying to eat. You people are stupid as shit and shouldn't be allowed to make decisions.

Some of these comments are ridiculous.

Cats are supposed to eat rabbits, it is in their nature to catch, kill and eat. The UK is mostly over populated with rabbits which has led to cruel extermination methods being introduced, such as Myxomatosis. This slowly kills the rabbit, giving them a very slow painful death. A quick, painless death by a cat is much less cruel, and more natural. Plus, they eat all the parts (except for the paws sometimes).

The cat isn't supposed to live in a city flat, forever being fed tinned food. These photos are great, hopefully they have helped to educate some of the ignorant people around.

  17. It's cool to see that cats can adjust like this. Cats like this live on farms as well. they keep the mice and rats away which are known to kill chickens or eat their eggs. They are also good from keeping other rodents from destroying crops as well. It's what cats do. They Hunt. Small dogs are known to do the same thing. Hell why do you think they are called Rat Terriers.
